Interview with Bas van der Leer, board member and 'key function holder risk management.'
"In my role as key function holder risk administration, I keep an overview of the risks that SSPF may have to deal with. In total, there are over 40 financial and non financial threats. In addition, I am responsible for the overall risk management. I report on this to the board and the supervisory board. SPN's finance manager, Jan Kees Smit, fulfils the role of 'key function holder risk management'. Together with his team he checks whether the formulated control measures are implemented correctly and what the results are.
"Investment beliefs play an important role in determining our financial risk tolerance"
"What appeals to me about risk management is the enormous challenges you are facing. All systems must be set up in such a way that risks are limited so you are prepared if and when a threat actually occurs. The past year has shown that our risk management is up to par. We were able to identify the main financial and non financial risks on time. Despite the outbreak of the coronavirus, no interventions or corrections were necessary at process level and all processes were up and running. That is something to be proud of, because it shows that our risk procedures work properly. It's great if you know the risks, but if you cannot control them, you're stuck."
Bas van der Leer works as a senior Supply Chain Lead at Shell and has been a board member of SSPF since 2017. He is also a key function holder risk management and maintains an overview of the total of risks.
